Dialogues with Baba

Part III – The College Student I

“Hello?”

“Ariana! It’s so nice to listen to you again!”

“Oh, dad… Hey!”

“Haha, how are you child?”

“I’m doing good. A bit surprised, as well. I wasn’t expecting your call at all.”

“Ah… Yes. I know I haven’t called much, but I definitely had it on my mind.”

“Right.”

“Right. So… how is college life treating you?”

“It’s been okay. Tiring, to be honest.”

“As expected. But I am sure you’re acing everything.”

“Hahaha, barely. I have now become a B’s and C’s student.”

“Really? Haha. I have definitely missed a lot then.”

“Yeah… You have.”

“Yeah… I am sorry.”

“It’s okay.”

“Yeah… Well, look, I’d like to amend my wrong doings. What do you say?”

“I’m listening.”

“I would like to take you out for dinner this weekend.”

“Sounds promising, haha. But what’s the catch?”

“What do you mean?”

“What you heard. What’s the catch?”

“There’s no catch in this, Ari. I just want to spend some time with you. Can I not?”

“Sorry, it’s just that it’s hard to believe.”

“I know, and it’s my fault. But I’ll try to make it up to you.”

“Right. So…”

“Friday night at 7?”

“I guess, haha. Sounds like we’re having a date.”

“We kind of are.”

“Eww, a date with my own dad.”

“Hahaha. Worry not. I won’t attempt anything weird.”

“Good, haha.”

“Yeah. So I’ll see you, right?”

“If you show up, definitely.”

“I will.”

“Must see to believe.”

“I mean this, Ariana. I want to be with my daughter.”

“Alright. I’ll trust your word.”

“Okay… Take care of yourself, yes?”

“I will.”

“Uh… Goodbye, then.”

“Bye, dad.”

“Wait, Ari. I…”

“Yeah?”

“I love you.”

“Yeah… Bye, dad.”

“Bye.”
